Is Jesus Standing at Heaven’s Door?

“Be patient therefore brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. … The coming of the Lord [draws] nigh.… the judge [stands] before the door.” James 5:7-9

By Mike Wingfield

Those who truly know and love the Lord are anxious for His coming for His bride, the church. The church has been longing for this event, known as the Rapture, for almost 2,000 years. For the true believer who follows the prophetic events in our times, this has become a growing expectation. In the very first New Testament book to be written in 45 A.D., the half-brother of our Lord and the pastor of the church in Jerusalem, James, wrote to Jewish believers scattered across the ancient world (James 1:1). He encouraged them to be spiritually prepared for the imminent return of the Lord Jesus. He wrote, “Be patient therefore brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. … The coming of the Lord [draws] nigh.…the judge [stands] before the door” (James 5:7-9).James pictured Jesus standing at heaven’s door, ready to open it and descend to earth to take His bride to heaven.

About 50 years later, the Lord Jesus would lead His last living apostle, John, to write the final letter to the churches scattered across the ancient world. That letter is the Book of Revelation. In this final book of the Bible, the Apostle John wrote, “And after this I looked, and, behold a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up [here], and I will [show] thee things which must be hereafter” (Revelation 4:1). That trumpet voice was the Lord Jesus (Revelation 1:10). This trumpet call for John to come to heaven represented the Rapture call from Jesus for His church to come up to heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

Jesus is depicted in the Bible as standing at the door of heaven before descending to earth to gather His church. Following the Rapture, Jesus will proceed to lead the church back to heaven, passing through heaven’s door to escort His bride to His Father’s House.

For many of us who are examining the current events and the prophetic Scriptures, it appears that Jesus is standing at heaven’s door and ready to descend from heaven to take us home to be with Him. I believe it is about to happen!

In Revelation 4, John wrote about what he saw taking place when the church gathers in heaven after the Rapture. The church saints, symbolically described as 24 elders, will witness the worship of the angels around the throne of God. This worship will provoke them to prostrate themselves in worship before the Lord. As they do so, they will cast their crowns before the throne in an expression of gratitude and praise.

In Revelation 5, the scene shifts from the Lord’s judgment of the church to His judgment of the nations on earth during the Tribulation Period. This is another proof that the Tribulation will follow the Rapture. John is made to focus on a seven-sealed scroll in the hand of God the Father. This scroll represents the Title Deed of the Universe. Whoever possesses this deed has the sovereign right to do as he pleases with the vast creation of all things. In the drama of heaven, Jesus comes forth to claim this scroll as He is introduced as “the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David” (Revelation 5:5). This dramatic scene in heaven sets the stage for the remainder of the Book of Revelation, and the unfolding future events.

Many prophetic Old Testament passages concerning the coming of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah must be surveyed to understand what transpires during the Tribulation. In Genesis 49:9-12, the coming Messiah is depicted as a ruler who will come from Judah, who will be like a lion – strong, fierce, and deadly. According to this text, in the last days, this Lion will have fire in His eyes, and His white teeth will accompany His roar as He devours His enemies that have come against His people, Israel.

In Isaiah 42:13-14, the Messiah is depicted as a lion that will hold His peace and refrain Himself until it is time to pounce on His enemies and the enemies of His people, to “destroy and devour at once” (verse 14). The Book of Revelation showcases the action of the Lion of Heaven in Revelation 6-18, as He sends His angels from heaven to bring His destruction upon the earth in preparation for His return in Revelation 19.

The Book of Revelation is a mystery to most people. They refuse to comprehend the holiness of God who hates sin. They have refused to discover the heart of God and His love for His chosen people, Israel (Zechariah 2:8). They ignore the warnings of what awaits the future of the nations in God’s eternal plan.

God has linked the destiny of the nations and Israel (Genesis 12:3). God will curse and judge those who hate or harm His people. The Bible declares that the enemies of Israel are also the enemies of God (Psalm 83:1-4).

The Bible demonstrates that when the nation of Israel is threatened or attacked by another nation, God will attack that nation. The ancient kingdoms that attacked the Jewish people in the past have disappeared. But the Jewish people and the nation of Israel continue to thrive.

The Bible tells us that in the last days God will call the Jewish people back to their ancient homeland (Ezekiel 36) and it will bring about the revival of the ancient hatred for the Jewish people. The battle for the Promised Land and Jerusalem is at the heart of the conflict between Israel and its Islamic enemies (Iran and its proxies- Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in Yemen).

A casual reading of the prophetic books of the Old Testament and the Book of Revelation reveals that during the Tribulation Period, God will decimate earth and man’s way of life. Isaiah 13:6 declares that The Day of the LORD (Tribulation Period) will “come as a destruction from the Almighty.” Isaiah 13:9 continues, “Behold, the day of the LORD [comes], cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.”

The Book of Revelation speaks of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah who will send His global judgments of natural disasters upon the earth. These judgments will include geological upheavals [earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis]. It will also feature radical climate change [deadly heat, severe drought, unusual electrical storms, and wind destruction- hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.].

Unfortunately, we have been deceived into believing that natural disasters are the result of climate change resulting from man’s mismanagement of creation. This is not what the Bible says! The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all His creation. He controls all natural disasters as a part of His divine will (Psalm 104:32; 148:8). God uses natural disasters as a part of His judgments upon mankind.

Many reliable sources today indicate we are experiencing a dramatic increase in natural disasters. See the chart on this page. This is happening in America and around the world. What does this tell us? Why is God currently multiplying natural disasters? What is He about to do? What is God saying to us? All of these are very important and valid questions. The Bible answers all these questions. Let’s examine the answers to these questions.

What does this tell us?

When God judged the world with a global flood in the days of Noah, it was sudden, horrific, and deadly. When God judges the world in the last days it will include cataclysmic natural disasters that will take place over a deadly period of seven years. According to the Bible, these natural disasters will begin before the Tribulation Period and continually escalate in their frequency and magnitude.

We are currently witnessing what I call God’s “shake and bake warning.” He is shaking our world with powerful earthquakes and baking it with intense heat. This is a sign of what is coming after the Rapture. Read Malachi 4:1; Luke 21:11 and Revelation 16:8-9.

On July 30, 2025, a major 8.8 earthquake struck an eastern peninsula of Russia. This was the sixth largest earthquake ever recorded. It triggered the eruption of seven volcanoes in Russia. This earthquake permanently moved the Russian peninsula toward the southeast by about six feet!

This summer, the world, and especially the Middle East, has endured record-breaking temperatures. Temperatures in Iran on one day were almost 129 degrees! A severe drought has created a water crisis in the capital of Iran. In just a few weeks, it is predicted that 10 million people in Tehran, Iran will have no water!

These natural disasters are only the preliminary judgments of God upon the nations before the Tribulation begins. In Matthew 24:8, Jesus called these preliminary judgments “the beginning of sorrows.”

Why is God currently multiplying natural disasters?

The Bible records for us why God killed all the inhabitants of the earth with a great flood in the days of Noah. Genesis 6 tells us that God did this because the saturation of wickedness produced global moral corruption throughout the world (Genesis 6:5-13). Furthermore, “the earth was filled with violence” (Genesis 6:11). Like today, man had no respect for human life that was created in the image of God. God patiently waited until there were only eight righteous people on the earth before He judged the world.

In one amazing chapter, Isaiah 24, God speaks about His final judgment upon the nations during the Tribulation Period. According to this text, the earth will suffer a devastating judgment that will destroy man’s way of life and remove most of the global population. The Lord will do this for reasons He reveals in verse 5. He said, “The earth is also defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.”

The “laws” and the “ordinance” that man is rebelling against are the moral, ethical, and spiritual codes of man’s conduct that pertain to God’s holy character and will. God’s commandments and statutes in the Bible are unchanging demands from a holy God who calls for all people to worship and serve Him. These rules of good and evil, right and wrong, are based upon His infinite holy character, which cannot change. Therefore, these demands from God are not subject to debate or change. They are absolutes for eternity!

When God spoke to Israel about these commandments and statutes, He reminded them that these laws were a promotion of life and His blessing. The rejection of these laws promoted death and His curse (Deuteronomy 30:15-20). These laws of God represent the foundations of life. When man chooses to reject God’s laws, he is destroying the very foundations of life that have been set in order by his Creator. This is why Psalm 11:3 says, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Look around us today. The world, including most Americans, openly defy the laws of God. Psalm 2 tells us that when the end comes, the nations will “imagine a vain thing” (verse 1). They demand a world that will be against God and His Messiah (verse 2). They will reject the binding laws of God and demand they be set free from God’s order (verse 3). As they do this, they are choosing death and God’s curse!

Our world no longer respects human life. We kill the unborn. Violence and murder run rampant throughout the global culture. People crave violence in movies and in video games. In most countries there is no application of capital punishment. God’s cornerstone of human government is written in Genesis 9:6, “Whoso [sheds] man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.”

God’s indictment for global judgment in Isaiah 24:5 also includes the world’s violation of His “everlasting covenant.” Please read Genesis 17. The everlasting covenant is God’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their descendants concerning His gift of all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession” (Genesis 17:8).

In Genesis 17, the Bible uses the word “covenant” 13 times. A covenant is a promise agreement between God and man. God never breaks His covenants! He always keeps His word! Nine times God told Abraham that this is my covenant.” This indicates this was an unconditional covenant. God did not ask Abraham to do anything to maintain this agreement. This covenant was dependent upon one thing – the promise of God!

Three times in Genesis 17 God called this covenant an “everlasting covenant” (verses 7, 13, 19). This simply means that as long as the earth stands God will keep this promise. The land of Israel (from the River of Egypt to the Euphrates River- Genesis 15:18) belongs to the Jewish people as “an everlasting possession” (verse 7). Nothing and no one can change that!

Since the Jews returned to their land in the 20th century, they have fought many wars, endured my conflicts, acts of terrorism, and failed peace covenant promises. The Arab Muslims surrounding Israel are sworn to the destruction of the only Jewish state. The charters of Islamic terrorist groups call for the complete eradication of all Jews living in all of Israel. They do not want peace or only a part of the land. They want every Jew dead, and they want all the land from the “River to the Sea” to become a vital part of a global Islamic Empire.

In Genesis 17, God made it extremely clear to Abraham that His everlasting land covenant did not include Ishmael and his Arab descendants (verses 16-19). God told Abraham that he would abundantly bless Ishmael and his descendants. God told Abraham that he would greatly multiply Ishmael and make him the father of “a great nation” (verse 20). Currently, there are 22 Arab nations, whose land mass is 630 times greater than the land mass of Israel. See the image on previous page. The population of the Arab nations is 44 times larger than the Jewish population of Israel. God has kept His promises to the Arab nations.

Despite this, we have reached a very critical juncture in the modern struggle for the land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem. The world is calling for the Jews to surrender the heartland of the land God promised to them FOREVER. They want the enemies of Israel to have biblical Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian State. A United Nation’s vote on this matter is to take place in September. Recently, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada have called for this vote and are ready to accept the division of the land of Israel. God will not idly sit on His throne in heaven and not respond. The nations are about to be ushered into the Tribulation Period.

What is God about to do?

As the world repeatedly calls for the division of the land of Israel, God will shake the earth, and the great upheaval will geologically divide the land of the nations. Powerful earthquakes are about to rattle the nations (Revelation 6:12-14; 16:18-20). Eventually, the surface of the earth will be totally rearranged. Read Isaiah 24.

Horrific natural disasters will strike every nation on this planet. What will transpire during the seven-year Tribulation is unimaginable to man. These natural dissters will destroy every building (Isaiah 24:10). All water will become contaminated (Revelation 16:3-7). Excessive drought will create a global famine (Matthew 24:7; Revelation 6:5-8). Approximately 95 percent of the global population will die. An average of about 2.7 million people will die each day for seven years. (See Mike’s chart #106 on the death of the wicked in the Tribulation Period.)

When the Lion of the Tribe of Judah returns to earth, He will come to “make war” (Revelation 19:11) with the nations that have gathered in Israel for the Battle of Armageddon. Joel 3:2 and Zechariah 14:2 indicate the Lord will draw all of the world’s armies to Israel so that He might destroy the nations.

What is God saying to us?

God is now speaking to the world. However, just as in the days of Noah, the world is deaf to the voice of God and His control over His creation. Those who read and meditate on His Word and His divine will for the last days know that the Lion of the Tribe of Judah is about to roar from heaven and begin His war against the wicked nations to destroy them all.

Before He does that, He has promised He will call His church home. He has promised, “I will also keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth” (Revelation 3:10).

Get ready for the shout that will take us out!
