The church has been longing for this event, known as the Rapture, for almost 2,000 years. For the true believer who follows the prophetic events in our times, this has become a growing expectation. In the very first New Testament book to be written in 45 A.D., the half-brother of our Lord and the pastor of the church in Jerusalem, James, wrote to Jewish believers scattered across the ancient world (James 1:1). He encouraged them to be spiritually prepared for the imminent return of the Lord Jesus. He wrote, “Be patient therefore brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. … The coming of the Lord [draws] nigh.…the judge [stands] before the door” (James 5:7-9).James pictured Jesus standing at heaven’s door, ready to open it and descend to earth to take His bride to heaven.

About 50 years later, the Lord Jesus would lead His last living apostle, John, to write the final letter to the churches scattered across the ancient world. That letter is the Book of Revelation. In this final book of the Bible, the Apostle John wrote, “And after this I looked, and, behold a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up [here], and I will [show] thee things which must be hereafter” (Revelation 4:1). That trumpet voice was the Lord Jesus (Revelation 1:10). This trumpet call for John to come to heaven represented the Rapture call from Jesus for His church to come up to heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

Jesus is depicted in the Bible as standing at the door of heaven before descending to earth to gather His church. Following the Rapture, Jesus will proceed to lead the church back to heaven, passing through heaven’s door to escort His bride to His Father’s House.

For many of us who are examining the current events and the prophetic Scriptures, it appears that Jesus is standing at heaven’s door and ready to descend from heaven to take us home to be with Him. I believe it is about to happen!

In Revelation 4, John wrote about what he saw taking place when the church gathers in heaven after the Rapture. The church saints, symbolically described as 24 elders, will witness the worship of the angels around the throne of God. This worship will provoke them to prostrate themselves in worship before the Lord. As they do so, they will cast their crowns before the throne in an expression of gratitude and praise.

The judgment of the church saints will occur immediately after the Rapture (2 Corinthians 5:10). This is why the elders are depicted in Revelation 4 with crowns on their heads. Remember that James told us that the Judge is standing at heaven’s door as He comes for His bride. It is apparent that this judgment of the believer will take place after the resurrection of the saints and probably before their entrance into heaven. [For more about this see Mike’s book, Your Judgment Day (The Most Important Day in Your Life).]

In Revelation 5, the scene shifts from the Lord’s judgment of the church to His judgment of the nations on earth during the Tribulation Period. This is another proof that the Tribulation will follow the Rapture. John is made to focus on a seven-sealed scroll in the hand of God the Father. This scroll represents the Title Deed of the Universe. Whoever possesses this deed has the sovereign right to do as he pleases with the vast creation of all things. In the drama of heaven, Jesus comes forth to claim this scroll as He is introduced as “the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David” (Revelation 5:5). This dramatic scene in heaven sets the stage for the remainder of the Book of Revelation, and the unfolding future events.

Many prophetic Old Testament passages concerning the coming of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah must be surveyed to understand what transpires during the Tribulation. In Genesis 49:9-12, the coming Messiah is depicted as a ruler who will come from Judah, who will be like a lion – strong, fierce, and deadly. According to this text, in the last days, this Lion will have fire in His eyes, and His white teeth will accompany His roar as He devours His enemies that have come against His people, Israel.

In Isaiah 42:13-14, the Messiah is depicted as a lion that will hold His peace and refrain Himself until it is time to pounce on His enemies and the enemies of His people, to “destroy and devour at once” (verse 14). They ignore the warnings of what awaits the future of the nations in God’s eternal plan.

God has linked the destiny of the nations and Israel (Genesis 12:3). God will curse and judge those who hate or harm His people. The ancient kingdoms that attacked the Jewish people in the past have disappeared. But the Jewish people and the nation of Israel continue to thrive.

The Bible tells us that in the last days God will call the Jewish people back to their ancient homeland (Ezekiel 36) and it will bring about the revival of the ancient hatred for the Jewish people. These judgments will include geological upheavals [earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis]. It will also feature radical climate change [deadly heat, severe drought, unusual electrical storms, and wind destruction- hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.].

Unfortunately, we have been deceived into believing that natural disasters are the result of climate change resulting from man’s mismanagement of creation. This is not what the Bible says! The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all His creation. He controls all natural disasters as a part of His divine will (Psalm 104:32; 148:8). God uses natural disasters as a part of His judgments upon mankind.

Many reliable sources today indicate we are experiencing a dramatic increase in natural disasters. See the chart on this page. This is happening in America and around the world. What does this tell us? Why is God currently multiplying natural disasters? What is He about to do? What is God saying to us? All of these are very important and valid questions. The Bible answers all these questions. Let’s examine the answers to these questions.

What does this tell us?

When God judged the world with a global flood in the days of Noah, it was sudden, horrific, and deadly. When God judges the world in the last days it will include cataclysmic natural disasters that will take place over a deadly period of seven years. According to the Bible, these natural disasters will begin before the Tribulation Period and continually escalate in their frequency and magnitude.

We are currently witnessing what I call God’s “shake and bake warning.” He is shaking our world with powerful earthquakes and baking it with intense heat. This is a sign of what is coming after the Rapture. This was the sixth largest earthquake ever recorded. It triggered the eruption of seven volcanoes in Russia. This earthquake permanently moved the Russian peninsula toward the southeast by about six feet!

This summer, the world, and especially the Middle East, has endured record-breaking temperatures. Temperatures in Iran on one day were almost 129 degrees! A severe drought has created a water crisis in the capital of Iran. In just a few weeks, it is predicted that 10 million people in Tehran, Iran will have no water!

These natural disasters are only the preliminary judgments of God upon the nations before the Tribulation begins. In Matthew 24:8, Jesus called these preliminary judgments “the beginning of sorrows.”

Why is God currently multiplying natural disasters?

The Bible records for us why God killed all the inhabitants of the earth with a great flood in the days of Noah. Genesis 6 tells us that God did this because the saturation of wickedness produced global moral corruption throughout the world (Genesis 6:5-13). Furthermore, “the earth was filled with violence” (Genesis 6:11). Like today, man had no respect for human life that was created in the image of God. God patiently waited until there were only eight righteous people on the earth before He judged the world.

In one amazing chapter, Isaiah 24, God speaks about His final judgment upon the nations during the Tribulation Period. According to this text, the earth will suffer a devastating judgment that will destroy man’s way of life and remove most of the global population. The Lord will do this for reasons He reveals in verse 5. He said, “The earth is also defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.”

The “laws” and the “ordinance” that man is rebelling against are the moral, ethical, and spiritual codes of man’s conduct that pertain to God’s holy character and will. God’s commandments and statutes in the Bible are unchanging demands from a holy God who calls for all people to worship and serve Him. These rules of good and evil, right and wrong, are based upon His infinite holy character, which cannot change. Therefore, these demands from God are not subject to debate or change. They are absolutes for eternity!

When God spoke to Israel about these commandments and statutes, He reminded them that these laws were a promotion of life and His blessing. As they do this, they are choosing death and God’s curse!

Our world no longer respects human life. We kill the unborn. Violence and murder run rampant throughout the global culture. People crave violence in movies and in video games. In most countries there is no application of capital punishment. This simply means that as long as the earth stands God will keep this promise. The land of Israel (from the River of Egypt to the Euphrates River- Genesis 15:18) belongs to the Jewish people as “an everlasting possession” (verse 7). Nothing and no one can change that!

Since the Jews returned to their land in the 20th century, they have fought many wars, endured my conflicts, acts of terrorism, and failed peace covenant promises. The Arab Muslims surrounding Israel are sworn to the destruction of the only Jewish state. The charters of Islamic terrorist groups call for the complete eradication of all Jews living in all of Israel. They do not want peace or only a part of the land. They want every Jew dead, and they want all the land from the “River to the Sea” to become a vital part of a global Islamic Empire.

In Genesis 17, God made it extremely clear to Abraham that His everlasting land covenant did not include Ishmael and his Arab descendants (verses 16-19). Currently, there are 22 Arab nations, whose land mass is 630 times greater than the land mass of Israel. See the image on previous page. God has kept His promises to the Arab nations.

Despite this, we have reached a very critical juncture in the modern struggle for the land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem. The world is calling for the Jews to surrender the heartland of the land God promised to them FOREVER. They want the enemies of Israel to have biblical Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian State. A United Nation’s vote on this matter is to take place in September. Recently, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada have called for this vote and are ready to accept the division of the land of Israel. God will not idly sit on His throne in heaven and not respond.
